Tough Pain Relief Choices in the COVID-19 Pandemic
J.Harris: A Webb MD article that quotes various good sources and the evidence indicates that NSAID like Aspirin, Motrin, Aleve and others cause no problem with worsening Covid. Tylenol is also OK. Webb MD is a good consumer web site.
HOPKINS SUGGESTIONS:
1. Should People Who Have Recently Had COVID-19 Be Vaccinated? (Global Biodefense) A recent report from Public Health England showed that 83% of people who had had COVID were protected from reinfection five months later. Given that 3.7 million people in the UK have had COVID, should those with antibodies be at the back of the vaccine queue?
2. COVID-19 Antibodies Transmit from Moms to Babies During Pregnancy (CIDRAP) SARS-CoV-2 antibodies transferred across the placenta in 87% of pregnant women who had COVID-19 at some p3.oint, suggesting that newborns of seropositive mothers may have some protection against the novel coronavirus at birth, according to a study today in JAMA Pediatrics. However, a second, unpublished study suggests that the maternal-infant antibody transfer is lower than expected.
3.COVID-19 Rarely Spreads through Surfaces. So Why are we Still Deep Cleaning? (Nature) As evidence has accumulated over the course of the pandemic, scientific understanding about the virus has changed. Studies and investigations of outbreaks all point to the majority of transmissions occurring as a result of infected people spewing out large droplets and small particles called aerosols when they cough, talk or breathe. These can be directly inhaled by people close by. Surface transmission, although possible, is not thought to be a significant risk.
