Return Visit to the British Museum – London, England

By Tom Allin
Knowing we wouldn’t see everything we hadn’t already seen we immediately
headed to the staircase and the second floor. No time to waste when this may be the
last day we have to roam the British Museum.

Damn, the staircase walls are covered by beautiful mosaics. Some of them are made
to look like rugs and they look so real you want to reach out touch them. OK, we
have climbed a lot of stairs in the last 20 months but none as slow as these and if we
weren’t in a hurry we would have climbed even slower.

As we cut through several galleries to get to the Oxus treasures (modern day Iraq)
every once in a while something would catch one or both of our attention.

The Sirata Beach Resort Is A Great Place To Stay If You Like Dirty Rooms

sirata2018-101wt

We recently returned from a trip to St Pete`s Beach. It was a great trip with one little exception. Actually it is a big exception.

I have stayed at many many hotels and this one wins the prize. It is the worst hotel room I have ever stayed in.

Let me start with something good about the Sirata Beach Resort. The hotel front desk staff was very friendly and tried to be helpful each time I called or visited them.

Peru Adventure 2017 — A Trip Up The Amazon River

By Deloris Munden

I will never forget my first sighting of an anaconda in the Amazon Rain Forest. We were hiking in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve which consists of approximately 7,700 square miles and is the largest protected area in Peru. Paths are sometimes nonexistent, muddy, slippery, wet and hilly. We had been in the Reserve a brief time before we came upon the anaconda, napping in leaves to escape the brutal afternoon sun.

I had wanted to go to an out-of-the-way place and see wildlife in its natural environment. I had succeeded.

The Painted Town – Ferndale California – Gallery 2

One of my favorite small towns in California. — Ron Munden

Nestled between the California Redwoods and fabled Lost Coast, the Victorian Village of Ferndale is a hidden oasis of small town charm, spectacular architecture, enchanting natural beauty and welcoming North Coast culture. With its fusion of old-fashioned Americana and modern quirkiness – and a scenic setting straight out of the movies – this small but thriving dairy town near Eureka, CA is the perfect destination for a fun family vacation, rugged outdoor adventure or romantic weekend getaway.

Westminster Abbey and More – February 4, 2018 – London, England

By Tom Allin

I’ve always said that the first thing tourists, or in our case travelers, lose is their
“legs”. We have both noted it takes us longer and longer to recover from a day of
museum sightseeing than it used to.

We got off late this morning, or turning the aforementioned into a positive, we got
off early this afternoon. We decided to visit Westminster Abbey, the Parliament
Building and whatever else we came across.

The first thing we came across was Abraham Lincoln.

Tate Modern Museum – February 2, 2018 – London, England

By Tom Allin

Our legs are rested so it’s time for another museum. The Tate Modern was number
one on my list of “to do” in London and very high on Nancy’s list. The night before
Nancy mapped our tube ride – one change of tube lines.

It’s no surprise that London goes out of its way to make it easy for tourists to find
their way around. In 2016 London was the second most visited city by international
visitors. Bangkok was #1, London #2, Paris #3, Dubai #4, New York #5, Singapore
#6, Kuala Lumpur #7, Istanbul #8, Tokyo #9, Seoul #10, Hong Kong #11, …..

Chiswick Gardens – February 1, 2018 – Chiswick, England

By Tom Allin

After a late evening and several days of museum touring we decided to take a day
off. Naturally by early afternoon I was itching to go exploring. I decided to walk the
mile and a half to Chiswick House and Gardens and take a look.

I arrived (so easy to find any place in the world with Google maps except when you
are in India) and it didn’t take me long to determine the house wasn’t open. Oh well,
time to go to Plan B – walk the estate.
