CORONAVIRUS INFO PROVIDED BY DR. JIM HARRIS – 08/07/2021
I GUESS WE BETTER NOT TAKE THE WEEKEND OFF?
FROM NYT:

Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital at ‘critical capacity’ due to COVID surge
(J. Harris: Wait a minute, this is a nice East Texas suburban area hospital in a nice area where nice, wealthy, educated people live — you know, nice —not a nursing home or a slum or a ghetto or a rust belt area. These nice folks had plenty of access to vaccinations. How could this be happening? Am I having a nightmare? Again?)
1. China says it will provide 2 billion vaccine doses to the world.
2. Huge Annual Motorcycle Rally Begins in Sturgis, S.D., Despite Delta Variant
“…Although most large events shut down last summer because of the coronavirus pandemic, the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally forged ahead, panicking health experts as nearly a half-million motorcycle enthusiasts descended on the Black Hills of South Dakota…Hundreds of new cases were linked to the event, but the true tally was obscured because infected bikers returned to their home states, making contact tracing difficult.

1. A PROVOCATIVE OPINION PIECE ABOUT 3RD BOOSTER JAB (TELEGRAPH)
If we’re not careful, booster vaccines could end up giving the coronavirus a boost (very readable)
”…if countries with high Covid vaccine coverage start making boosters available now, and to all citizens because it will delay efforts to protect more people. The sooner we start using boosters, the more likely we’ll need them…Not only would this once again collectively set everyone back and delay the global effort to stop the virus from spreading, it may not have any real impact. As things stand, the scientific case for boosters is far from clear…Moreover, until we start to get firm evidence of the effectiveness of vaccines declining, it is difficult to see what could possibly be gained with boosters now. Virtually all Covid-19 hospitalizations are of people who have not been vaccinated…Ultimately, it’s important for governments to do what they think is necessary to protect their citizens. But at this stage in the pandemic the key question is: will boosters be more effective at protecting people than helping stop the virus from circulating globally…But the bottom line is that if we use them too soon, then we increase the chances that they will become a necessity. The longer the virus is in circulation, the greater the chance that a new and potentially more dangerous variant will emerge. If we let that happen, then the goal of ending this pandemic will be even further from our grasp.
(J. Harris: I guess I stay disgusted about the hesitant idiots because I am a selfish old man; but what a shame it is not to have protected most of OUR citizens when we could have done so. I wanted to protect my family and then go up the ladder to neighborhood, community, state, country, world. So, I started at home; unfortunately, the disease got here before the vaccine did. You can bet that even now, I’ll be interested in 3rd Jabs and new vaccines, as well as some of the new medications that treat Covid, exposed or infected patients — and they being discovered and tested. Hang in there!)
2. MANDATED VACCINATIONS:
Defense Secretary to Announce Mandatory COVID Vaccinations for Troops ‘Soon’: Sources (ABC News) Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is expected to announce his recommendation to President Joe Biden that COVID-19 vaccines be made mandatory for troops, officials told ABC News Wednesday evening. A senior official said the announcement will come “soon,” while a separate U.S. official said an announcement is expected by the end of this week.
3. More US Employers Mandate COVID-19 Vaccines (CIDRAP) The list of major American companies who will soon begin mandating COVID-19 vaccines continues to grow, as both Tyson Foods and Microsoft announced that all employees will need to show proof of vaccination in the coming months. Tyson Foods is the first major food industry employer to require vaccinations.
OPINION PIECE FROM WASHINGTON POST CITED BY HOPKINS:
Opinion: As Bad As Covid-19 Has Been, a Future Pandemic Could Be Even Worse — ”Unless We Act Now Coronavirus vaccines can end the current pandemic if enough people choose to protect themselves and their loved ones by getting vaccinated. But in the years to come, we will still need to defend against a pandemic side effect: collective amnesia. As public health emergencies recede, societies often quickly forget their experiences — and fail to prepare for future challenges. For pandemics, such a course would be disastrous.
ANOTHER HOUSTON REPORT:
According to Houston’s wastewater, the surge of COVID-19 is only going to get worse
”…People shed the virus through feces, regardless of whether they experience symptoms, making wastewater sampling a helpful indicator that goes beyond traditional tests. The city has used the sampling method to sniff out budding outbreaks, such as one at a downtown men’s shelter last September…The city and area researchers have been sampling wastewater to get more timely readings on the pandemic since May 2020, one of several wastewater monitoring efforts across the country….There is more COVID-19 in the city’s wastewater system now than at any time in the pandemic, city officials said Wednesday, the latest warning that the virus is spreading at an unprecedented rate.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEASED:
A nice lady who used to be our mayor sent us several doctor jokes that you will be seeing. A noted local collector and teller of jokes also sent us a new batch. Thanks to them both:
A cold seat in a public restroom is unpleasant. A warm seat in a public restroom is worse.
Apparently RSVP’ing to a wedding invitation “Maybe next time,” isn’t the correct response.
