New day, new record’: Missouri hospital out of ventilators as COVID-19 surge intensifies — 8 things to know Monday
(J. Harris: A lady named Gabrielle Masson digs up pertinent clinical articles and studies for Becker. For readable and useful Covid information, the NYT is her only rival. I can tell when she is on vacation. Becker has other very capable researchers as well, but Gabrielle is my hero.)

Harvard, MIT researchers create COVID-19 diagnosing mask
(“…We have essentially shrunk an entire diagnostic laboratory down into a small, synthetic biology-based sensor that works with any face mask, and combines the high accuracy of [polymerase chain reaction] tests with the speed and low cost of antigen tests,…”
FROM HOPKINS CITATIONS:
1. US Vaccination
The US has administered 328 million cumulative doses of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, and it is administering approximately 575,000 doses per day. A total of 181 million individuals in the US have received at least 1 dose of SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, equivalent to 54.6% of the entire US population. Among adults, 66.7% have received at least 1 dose as well as 9.0 million adolescents aged 12-17. A total of 156 million individuals are fully vaccinated, which corresponds to 47.0% of the total population. Among adults, 57.7% are fully vaccinated, and 6.8 million adolescents aged 12-17 years are fully vaccinated.
2. “… the Delta variant’s increased transmissibility has contributed to significantly increased spread in unvaccinated communities, causing 26% of SARS-CoV-2 infections in the US. In the United Kingdom, COVID-19 cases increased sixfold and hospitalizations doubled in the wake of Delta’s introduction into the population. The WHO recently reiterated its position that all people, regardless of vaccination status, should continue to wear masks indoors and in crowded areas. The US CDC, howev
er, has not reversed its recommendation that fully vaccinated people may be unmasked in all situations…’
AZD1222-induced neutralising antibody activity against SARS-CoV-2 Delta VOC
Our data reinforce the need to recognise the increased protection offered by a second vaccine dose as COVID-19 cases associated with the B.1.617.2 variant [DELTA] increase. They also suggest that further booster immunisations might be needed, especially for more susceptible groups that have received vaccines that induce lower than average NAbTs [antibodies]. As with mRNA vaccines, it might be feasible to prioritise the use of the AZD1222 vaccine,[OXFORD AZ BRITISH VACCINE] in light of severely restricted supply, for people with a confirmed history of COVID-19. Overall, our findings highlight the urgent need for expanded serological monitoring of NAbTs within sub-populations. This will enable a better understanding of the evolution of vaccine efficacy and facilitate the production of updated vaccines, thereby ensuring maximum protection against SARS-CoV-2 variants.
(JHarris: This satistical data is virtually incomprehensible to me, but Delta is deadly and it helps to vaccinate patients who have had clinical Covid in order to protect the herd while urgently needed new vaccines and tracing techniques are developed. The mRNA vaccines that we mostly use are more effective, hopefully.)

ABSOLUTELY MY LAST BLOND JOKE:
Two Blondes With Hammers.
Lynn and Judy were doing some carpenter work
on a Habitat for Humanity House.
Lynn, who was nailing down house siding, would reach into her nail pouch, pull out a nail and either toss it over her shoulder or nail it in.
Judy, figuring this was worth looking into, asked,
‘Why are you throwing those nails away?’
Lynn explained, ‘When I pull a nail out of my pouch,
about half of them have the head on the wrong end
and I throw them away.’
Judy got completely upset and yelled,
‘You moron! Those nails aren’t defective!
They’re for the other side of the house!’
What do you call a girl with one leg that’s shorter than the other? Ilene.
