Spring break trips to Florida could spread variants, experts warn
(J. Harris: FL has more mutant viruses than any other state. Revelers will bring them back home to Grandma. Almost certainly the Mutants will also find their way to Sturgis, SD motorcycle people in August as well.)
Mass-Vaccination Sites — An Essential Innovation to Curb the Covid-19 Pandemic
(J. Harris: GREAT, but WHERE WERE YOU GUYS A YEAR AGO?)
HOPKINS CITED:
1. Blind Spots: What COVID-19 Revealed About Global Development’s Biggest Gaps (Devex): Before COVID-19 took hold as a pandemic one year ago, global health experts had long warned that such an event was inevitable and that the world had better prepare. While some elements of preparedness might have been obvious, the coronavirus has also shed light on critical pieces of the global health and development landscapes that were harder to see before. As health and development leaders try to ensure the lessons of COVID-19 inform how institutions are organized and reformed, how future investments are prioritized, and how policies can better protect people against the multiple impacts of infectious disease, they are taking stock of what caught them off guard.
2. VACCINE INFORMATION
EU AUTHORIZES J&J-JANSSEN VACCINE On March 11, the European Commission issued a conditional marketing authorization for the J&J-Janssen SARS-CoV-2, based on the recommendation of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). This is the fourth vaccine available in the EU, but the first 1-dose vaccine authorized in Europe.
3. ASTRAZENECA-OXFORD VACCINE & BLOOD CLOTTING
On March 11, the EMA issued a statement indicating that the available evidence does not suggest a link between vaccination and the thrombolytic conditions, noting that they are not listed as a side effect of the vaccine…. As of March 10, 30 cases of thromboembolic events had been reported among nearly 5 million people vaccinated with the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine. The EMA’s safety committee urged countries to continue AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccination campaigns, as “the vaccine’s benefits continue to outweigh its risks.”
4 COMPARISON OF VACCINES: The relatively small numbers of severe cases and deaths in the clinical trials for all of the vaccines so far make it more difficult to evaluate their efficacy in preventing more severe forms of COVID-19, as a single case could result in major changes to the efficacy estimates….Health officials and experts continue to emphasize the importance of vaccination, regardless of which vaccine is available: “The best vaccine is the one that’s in your arm.” This does not mean that the vaccines are identical in terms of their performance, but regardless of whether one specific vaccine is slightly more efficacious than another, any of them will provide more protection—and a high degree of protection—than no vaccine at all. And beyond the direct effect to the vaccinated individual, evidence continues to emerge that vaccination reduces the risk of infection, which could contribute to broader community protection in the form of herd immunity….
Risk Factors Associated With SARS-CoV-2 Seropositivity Among US Health Care Personnel
(J. Harris: So, Health Care Workers are and were more likely to become infected OUTSIDE the hospital than at work on a Covid Ward. I find this appalling. We have been poorly led politically — and ineffectually guided by medical leaders, especially those who are involved with public health concerns. I remain embarrassed and disgusted at our sloth, defiance, and ignorance. ” It ain’t my fault”— but it is.)
An Antiviral ‘Covid-19 Pill’ Shows Promise for Treating Infection
Molnupiravir was initially discovered at Emory University, where researchers originally planned to study it for flu. When the pandemic hit, they switched gears and began testing it against SARS-CoV-2.
(J. Harris: This will be a good drug to follow. Early, it looks promising in a very small study!!!)

Mayor Audrey Kariel sends these Dr. Faucci sayings:
“Influenza is not a cold, just like a tiger is not a cat.”
“You’re bored to death at home, so the virus will be bored to death, too.”
“Stay away from fire, thieves, and your colleagues.”
