New Cases Friday: Harrison-0. Gregg 14
FROM THE LONGVIEW PAPER’ Friday:”Hospitalizations in Longview related to COVID-19 have increased to 123 — up from 119 reported Monday, Browne said. He added that not all of those patients live in Gregg County.
Browne also noted a trend of younger people without underlying health issues needing to be hospitalized and moved into intensive care units.”The fact that younger people are getting it and becoming sicker is a concern,”
SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing of skin for COVID-19 diagnostics: a case report In summary, this case emphasises the use of SARS-CoV-2 PCR testing of skin biopsy samples as an additional diagnostic tool, helping to shed light on the actual prevalence of COVID-19 in the general population. Additionally, further studies are needed to understand to what extent and at what point during their disease course patients with COVID-19 actually develop immunity—a question of uttermost importance, especially with regards to the currently ongoing efforts to develop a vaccine to SARS-CoV-2, and the concept of herd immunity generation.

1. Robust T Cell Immunity in Convalescent Individuals with Asymptomatic or Mild COVID-19 (Cell) Researchers systematically mapped the functional and phenotypic landscape of SARS-CoV-2-specific T cell responses in unexposed individuals, exposed family members, and individuals with acute or convalescent COVID-19. Acute phase SARS-CoV-2-specific T cells displayed a highly activated cytotoxic phenotype that correlated with various clinical markers of disease severity, whereas convalescent-phase SARS-CoV-2-specific T cells were polyfunctional and displayed a stem-like memory phenotype. The collective dataset shows that SARS-CoV-2 elicits robust, broad, and highly functional memory T cell responses, suggesting that natural exposure or infection may prevent recurrent episodes of severe COVID-19.2.Exclusive: U.S. to Make Coronavirus Strain for Possible Human Challenge Trials (Reuters) U.S. government scientists have begun efforts to manufacture a strain of the novel coronavirus that could be used in human challenge trials of vaccines, a controversial type of study in which healthy volunteers would be vaccinated and then intentionally infected with the virus. The work is preliminary and such trials would not replace large-scale, Phase 3 trials such as those now underway in the United States testing experimental COVID-19 vaccines from Moderna Inc (MRNA.O) and Pfizer Inc (PFE.N), according to a statement emailed to Reuters by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health.Covid-19 “long haulers” are organizing online to study themselves
Effect of an Inactivated Vaccine Against SARS-CoV-2 on Safety and Immunogenicity Outcomes
In this interim report of phase 1 and phase 2 trials of an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine, patients had a low rate of adverse reactions and demonstrated immunogenicity; the study is ongoing. Efficacy and longer-term adverse event assessment will require phase 3 trials.
