Marshall nursing home confirms nearly 60 COVID-19 cases among residents, staff

May 8, 2020 Judge Sims – Today, with a heavy heart, I do report 2 more fatalities plus 12 new positive cases of the coronavirus in Harrison County. That brings our totals to 184 positive cases, 11 fatalities and 18 recoveries. Many are affected directly by this virus, not only lives but livelihoods. Please remember all those affected in your prayers.

Shreveport:

Caddo Parish increased from 1,690 positive COVID-19 cases on Thursday to 1,712 on Friday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

Caddo Parish’s COVID-19 death count increased by 10 and is now at 144 as of Friday, the Caddo Parish Coroner’s office reported.

The first Caddo Parish coronavirus death occurred March 24.

This is an opinion piece that is critical of Texas for opening back up. Don’t read it if you totally distrust The Washington Post. I include it because I’m afraid that Texas is likely to be sacrificing lives with a premature return to business, even with limitations. As infection cases continue to rise in Texas, especially in this area, I’d rather be cautious. JHarris

SARS-CoV-2 FOUND IN SEMEN A recent study published in JAMA Network Open detected the RNA of SARS-CoV-2 in the semen of a small sample of patients from China’s Henan province. Out of 38 patients, 6 had detectable RNA via RT-PCR analysis in semen samples. The authors acknowledge that these analyses do not indicate whether or not COVID-19 can be sexually transmitted, but they encourage more studies to be performed to answer this question. Other viruses can be found in semen and can be transmitted via sexual contact, including Zika and Ebola. In some cases, virus detected in semen can lead to person-to-person transmission, but this has not yet

Report: CDC COVID-19 Reopening Guidelines Shelved (CIDRAP) The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) crafted a detailed document to guide states on the reopening of retail, daycares, schools, and religious services, among other things, but that report was quickly shelved by the White House, the Associated Press reported.
