Rural hospitals know COVID-19 is coming, but they don’t know how strong

The spread of coronavirus into rural Texas counties is about 10 days behind the spread in urban ones, according to a Houston Chronicle data analysis.

As of Wednesday, about 9 percent of the state’s nearly 10,000 confirmed cases were in rural counties, where hospitals have struggled in recent decades to stay open.

And while the coronavirus has been slower to spread in smaller communities in Texas, medical professionals know it is coming. What they don’t know is which town will be hit hardest — and how significant a financial loss will be.

Houston sees largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases

Mayor Sylvester Turner announced 615 newly-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Houston Thursday, the largest single-day increase of the pandemic so far.

Meanwhile, the experimental therapy, which consists of transfusing the blood plasma of people who’ve recovered from COVID-19 into patients fighting the disease, is coming to more Houston-area hospitals.

Caddo Parish has more than 900 positive COVID-19 cases

Caddo Parish’s cases were 803 as of Wednesday and increased to 906 on Thursday, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.

The number of deaths also surged to 42 for the day, according to the Caddo Coroner’s Office. All suffered from known or suspected pre-existing serious health conditions.

This morning I saw a neighbor talking to her cat. It was obvious she thought her cat understood her. I came into my house, told my dog….. we laughed a lot.

Have a nice weekend and a joyous Easter at home.
